WhatsApp is working on increasing the usage of its status update feature, similar to Instagram stories, which it introduced in the past years. The status update notification feature, identified by the WABetaInfo team, is being tested in the Android 2.24.6.19 beta version.

With this development, users will be able to send notifications directly when mentioning specific individuals in their status updates. As seen in the screenshot, WhatsApp is testing a feature to inform users about newly unseen status updates shared by other users. It is anticipated that this feature will be rolled out to end users in 2024.
In other news, Twitter’s security team has announced efforts to remove bot and spam accounts that violate platform rules. In a potential scenario, notifications could be sent when mentioning in an unchecked status update. This mechanism aims to keep users informed about important updates directly relevant to them.
Another potential trigger for notifications could be interactions with favorite contacts. WhatsApp will prioritize informing users about unseen status updates from contacts they’ve favorited.
